Your Guide To: Garden

Make the most of your outdoor space

The longer days and lighter evenings are the joy of the summer season and we’re looking forward to spending more time in the garden. Whether your outdoor space is a cherished sunny spot at the back door or a one that stretches as far as the eye can see, here are a few garden ideas so you can make the most of your space in the months ahead and all year round.

No matter how diminutive your space is, figure out how you would best like to use it. To sit and soak up the sun when time allows? To create a kitchen garden to keep herbs close to hand? Or perhaps to enjoy breakfast as the sun comes up. Choose foldaway furniture that can be stored when not in use, pick a bistro set for simple yet stylish place to dine and add touches of comfort with seat pads and bed rolls to add comfort and colour to your space.

A patio dining space

If entertaining alfresco is your favourite thing, curate a garden design on your patio or terrace that will bring you joy all year round. A table with benches rather than chairs is a space-saving option for smaller areas, while an outdoor mirror will create the illusion of space, too. String up some festoon or fairy lights for a little sparkle when night falls and place an assortment of candles and lanterns on and around the table for a soft glow when entertaining under the stars.

North-facing Garden

Whatever your space lacks in sunshine, you can make up with garden decor ideas that include cosiness and colour. Treat it like you would any room in your home by using tricks and treasures for the perfect space. Choose an eclectic mix of planters, keep cosy with a log burner and add a mirror to reflect light. At nighttime, think about how you can make the most of garden lighting ideas to illuminate certain areas and light a log burner or fire pit to keep you warm and outdoors long after the sun goes down.

Large Garden

While space may not be an issue, a large garden can prove as tricky to plan as one half the size. Create zones for different areas: an L-shaped sofa and chair set brings a touch of intimacy to a larger space. When it comes to dining, you have the luxury of choosing a garden table that will accommodate many for alfresco lunches. Introduce colour with a pretty parasol which will give some respite from the rays and have fun with a hammock or swing seat for a spot to while away some me-time.
